Black Hat Search Engine Optimization

June 27th, 2008

Black Hat search engine optimization is customarily defined as techniques that are used to get higher search rankings in an unethical manner. These black hat SEO techniques usually include one or more of the following characteristics:

* breaks search engine rules and regulations
* creates a poor user experience directly because of the black hat SEO techniques utilized on the Web site
* unethically presents content in a different visual or non-visual way to search engine spiders and search engine users.

A lot of what is known as black hat SEO actually used to be legit, but some folks went a bit overboard and now these techniques are frowned upon by the general SEO community at large. These black hat SEO practices will actually provide short-term gains in terms of rankings, but if you are discovered utilizing these spammy techniques on your Web site, you run the risk of being penalized by search engines. Black hat SEO basically is a short-sighted solution to a long-term problem, which is creating a Web site that provides both a great user experience and all that goes with that.
Black Hat SEO Techniques To Avoid

* Keyword stuffing: Packing long lists of keywords and nothing else onto your site will get you penalized eventually by search engines. Learn how to find and place keywords and phrases the right way on your Web site with my article titled Learn Where And How To Put Keywords In Your Site Pages.
* Invisible text: This is putting lists of keywords in white text on a white background in hopes of attracting more search engine spiders. Again, not a good way to attract searchers or search engine crawlers.
* Doorway Pages: A doorway page is basically a “fake” page that the user will never see. It is purely for search engine spiders, and attempts to trick them into indexing the site higher. Read more about doorway pages.

Black Hat SEO is tempting; after all, these tricks actually do work, temporarily. They do end up getting sites higher search rankings; that is, until these same sites get banned for using unethical practices. It’s just not worth the risk. Use efficient search engine optimization techniques to get your site ranked higher, and stay away from anything that even looks like Black Hat SEO.

How to boost your alexa rank?

June 24th, 2008

Just like there are ways to increase your PageRank there are also various ways to increase your Alexa Rank. Finally, ten ways to increase your Alexa Rank are:

  • Download and use the Alexa Toolbar. Remember that Alexa assigns rank to specific site according to their Toolbar. In other words, your site will have lower rankings (higher traffic) if your visitors use Alexa Toolbar. So why not to use Alexa Toolbar and increase your rankings for free?
  • Tell your visitors to use Alexa Toolbar. Since users with Alexa Toolbar are more valuable to your (they help to increase your rankings) why not to increase the percentage of those users and get lower rankings in Alexa? You can do that by personally recommending users to use Alexa by emailing them, writing posts about Alexa and inform why people should use it or placing Alexa promotional banners.

Top Ways To Make Money Online Now

June 17th, 2008

Here they are:

Data entry

Have an I.Q. of 60 and above? (Who doesn’t?!) Data entry is simply transcribing a different form of data into another form. For example, scanned pages of a book and handwritten letters into a Microsoft Word format.

In advanced jobs, it can be the transcribing of a different program. Be careful though, with just one mistake even a single space can cause a whole lotta errors in the program. So if you want to take the job, you have to be a patient typist and as accurate as an eagle.

Paid to click

I bet even a caveman can do this. You view a website for a certain amount of time and after that time expires, you are credited for bout $0.01-0.05 which is actually peanuts. But hey, do it for around an hour a day and you’ll get a bunch of peanuts!

And did I tell you that some paid to click sites offer second tier commissions? If you refer a friend you will be given a certain amount depending on their activity. Imagine referring 10 friends, 100 or even 1000?! That would give you a truck load of peanuts!

There are literally thousands of get paid to click sites, but the best probably is Bux.to. They’ve paid a whole lotta members ranging from two figures to even five figures! (Check their forum for success stories)

When is the next Alexa ranking update?

June 16th, 2008

I know everyone loves ranking, so do I. In fact, ranking is one thing that motivates me to write and blog (other than $$$). The undisputed and most sought after, is nothing else than Google PageRank. Alexa ranking comes as the second most recognized ranking to me.

It’s been 2 weeks since Alexa changed how their ranking system works. Macromedia dropped 150k rank down to 300k from around 150K initially. And I’m not alone here. Almost all major blogs and websites experienced drop in ranking as well. I believe you’re one of the ‘victim’ too.

How hard had I achieved this rank, since I gave this blog a new life starting last December, but it’s gone in a blink of an eye. I’m not blaming Alexa though, even though I feel a little bit frustrated, since the old system is inaccurate. As most of us aware of, it was calculated mostly based on the number of hit from the visitors who has Alexa toolbar installed.

Well now, is the new system trustworthy? I know, it’s still 2 weeks, and if it is judged by the UAT (user acceptance test) that is normally done on newly deployed system, 2 weeks is too short (lol, but this is free system, so no UAT). But the new system must has been in Beta prior to roll out on all websites.

On the previous system, Alexa rank was updated on weekly or bi-weekly basis (but sometimes in months). So there is the questions popped out on my head

* How frequent Alexa ranking would get updated?
* At the moment, Alexa only calculating traffic for the past 9 month. When the rest of data will be in?
* How accurate the new system would be? What is the new rank algorithm?
